Opening Night Recap – University of Nebraska

The Nebraska Basketball programs began the 2022-23 season with Opening Night with Husker Hoops Friday evening.

The third-annual event featured a 25-minute scrimmage from the Husker women, a 25-minute practice by the Husker men and a 3-point contest between both teams before a performance from Waka Flocka Flame closed out the festivities.

In the scrimmage, All-Big Ten guard Jaz Shelley led the way for the Huskers with 10 points in a 43-22 victory over the scout team. Allison Weidner, Alexis Markowski and Isabelle Bourne each had seven points apiece for the Huskers, who return the bulk of their lineup from a team that won 24 games and reached the NCAA Tournament.

The Husker men spent their 25 minutes going through a number of drills, giving fans an inside look at a typically practice plan.

Following the men’s practice, members of both teams participated in a 3-point contest. Jazz Shelley’s score of 14 in the opening round led until Keisei Tominaga closed the contest by hitting 17 3-points during his round to win the event. Wilhelm Breidenbach and Annika Stewart tied for third with 13 points each.

Season and mini plans are available for both the Husker men and women by visiting Huskers.com/Tickets or calling the NU Athletic Ticket Office at 800-8-BIGRED during business hours (Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-5 p.m.). The Husker men host Chadron State on Oct. 23, while the Husker women take on Washburn on Oct. 30.
