Huskers Close Exhibition Play with 2-0 Shutout


Lincoln, Neb. – In its final exhibition game of the year, the Nebraska soccer team defeated Tulsa 2-0 on Thursday night at Hibner Stadium in front of 700 fans. 
 
The Husker offense was in control the first half, but the team was unable to find the back of the net until the second half. In the 55th minute, sophomore Florence Belzile dribbled through the defense and took a shot at the top of the penalty box that found the back of the net. This goal gave the Huskers a late edge that they wouldn’t relinquish. 
 
In the 80th minute, Eleanor Dale helped extend NU’s lead to 2-0 with a goal off an assist from Jordan Zade. Zade shot a pass across the pitch and into the penalty box, where Dale gathered and scored.  
 
Junior Sami Hauk, played the first 70 minutes for the Big Red and collected two saves. Redshirt freshman Cece Villa came on for the final 20 minutes of the contest and preserved the shutout. 
 
Overall, the Huskers outshot the Golden Hurricane by a very wide margin, 31-8. NU also held the 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. 
 
Up next, the Huskers open their regular season when they host San Diego State on Thursday, Aug. 18th at 7:05 p.m. (CT).
