Huskers Add Vacek for 2022-23

The Nebraska soccer team added a talented in-state player to a roster that includes seven newcomers, when Head Coach John Walker announced the addition of Lincoln native Abby Vacek for the 2022 season.

Vacek, a recent Lincoln Pius X graduate, scored 32 goals, 12 assists and was a two-time academic all-state honoree and two-time all-state honorable mention during her high school career. Vacek was also named to the all-conference, academic all-state and all-Nebraska teams her senior year, while leading the Thunderbolts to the 2022 state quarterfinals. A three-time math student of the year and member of the gold honor roll, she also participated on her high school’s cross country team.

On the club side, Vacek played for Gil Beccera at Hawks FC and Jose Varga at Omaha United and helped her Omaha United team to a state championship in 2021. Throughout her club career, Vacek scored seven state tournament goals and was named to the Nebraska State Tournament Best XI in the Fall of 2019.

“Nebraska has great programs both academically and athletically and I grew up watching the Huskers, so it has always been my dream to be one,” Vacek said.
