Big Ten Tennis Bracket Released

The Big Ten Conference announced the seedings and bracket for the 2022 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament on Sunday. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Huskers secured the fifth seed overall and will take on the Northwestern Wildcats in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 29 at Noon CT.

Nebraska is riding a three-game winning streak into the tournament, knocking off Purdue, Indiana, and Penn State to end the regular season. The Huskers’ five conference wins was the most NU has had since joining the Big Ten, and just their third, five-win season in program history. The Huskers have already played Northwestern once this year, losing narrowly 4-3 at the Dillon Tennis Center, but took them to the limit in last year’s Big Ten Tournament.

Ohio State sits in the No. 1 position with a 7-0 conference record, while Michigan is at No. 2 with an 8-1 record in the conference season. Both teams will receive first round byes and will begin play in Friday’s quarterfinals.

Two matches highlight Thursday’s first round. No. 8 Purdue will take on No. 9 Michigan State, while No. 7 Penn State will face No. 10 Indiana.

In Friday’s quarterfinals, Ohio State will take on the Purdue/Michigan State winner, with Nebraska and Northwestern squaring off on that side of the bracket. Michigan will face the winner of the Penn State/Indiana match, while Illinois will take on the host team Wisconsin.

Thursday’s first round matches and Saturday’s semifinals will begin at 11:00 a.m. CT, while Sunday’s championship match will begin at Noon CT. All four quarterfinal matches will be held on Friday beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
