What is the elixir when WRs cannot get open?

Listening to some discussions on how the WRs were not able to get open…though I also hear other comments that they were. Let’s assume it is the former: your WRs cannot create separation so appeared to be covered.

What is the key to overcoming this? I see WRs make plays when they don’t seem open and you hear the “give your guy a chance” mantra.

I also know I might be the first to moan if a QB throws into coverage.

Edit: My question came from the Severe and Benning program. They are pretty adamant people are not open. Interesting.
