Watt Named 2021-22 NFHS National Coach of the Year



Nebraska Softball’s Volunteer Coach Mark Watt was named a 2021-22 National Coach of the Year announced the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association.

Watt served as the head softball coach at Lincoln Southwest High School, retiring in 2022 as the career leader in softball coaching victories with 579 wins during his 25 years of coaching. Watt led his teams to four NSAA Class A State Softball Championships along with three second-place finishes. He has been named Coach of the Year by various organizations including the Nebraska Coaches Association, Lincoln Journal Star and KFOR Sportscaster Club. Watt has coached multiple student-athletes to NFCA All-Region honors, three Nebraska Softball Player of the Year selections and three Super State Honorary Team captains. 

THE NFHS honors coaches in the top 10 girls sports and top 10 boys sports (by participation numbers) and in two “other sports” – one for boys and one for girls – that are not included in the top 10 listings. This year’s award recognized coaches for the 2021-22 school year.
