Reifeis, Adrover Gallego Earn Big Ten Honors



The Big Ten Conference announced its women’s tennis individual honors on Wednesday morning following the conclusion of a shortened 2019-2020 season. Nebraska’s Claire Reifeis was unanimously named to the All-Big Ten team and Isabel Adrover Gallego earned the Sportsmanship Award for the Huskers.

Reifeis earned All-Big Ten accolades for the second year in a row. In 2020, the Indianapolis, Ind., native went 6-4 in singles play, including a 1-0 record in conference competition. On Feb. 23, Reifies defeated No. 119 Thasaporn Naklo of Iowa State 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot, helping NU to a 5-2 win over the Cyclones. In doubles, Reifeis went 5-3 overall, playing with four different partners throughout the season. Reifeis will continue her tennis career at Nebraska for the 2020-21 season. 

The second Husker honored by the Big Ten,Adrover Gallego earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, presented to athletes that demonstrate sportsmanship and citizenship on and off the court. The freshman from Mallorca, Spain, had a notable debut season going 5-2 in singles play and 4-2 in doubles. Off the court, Adrover Gallego made the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
