Record-Setting Badgers Hand Huskers Fourth Straight Loss

Winning on the road in the Big Ten Conference has been historically difficult this season. Winning anywhere is even harder when they set a school record for three-pointers made.

That was what Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg was willing to give up in the Tuesday night game. The Huskers(7-12, 2-6 Big Ten) have packed the paint against teams with some success. It worked against Purdue and Indiana. It allowed Wisconsin(12-7, 5-3 Big Ten) to make 18-of-34 triples.

It was a familiar script for the Huskers. The game started even then Wisconsin went on a run to go up 24-15. Nebraska answered with a 10-0 run that the Badgers followed up with a 7-1 run of their own. In the final minute of the half, Kevin Cross hit a three-pointer then Wisconsin’s Brevin Pritzl answered with a three of his own. Cam Mack sent the game into halftime with a finger roll that beat the buzzer.

The Badgers led 39-38 at the break and had already made eight three-pointers.

Wisconsin didn’t forget how to make shots from deep while in the locker room, draining a pair of threes in the first minute to spark a 10-0 run. Nebraska answered with their own runs, cutting the deficit to five with 7:35 to go in the game, but Wisconsin used a 13-1 advantage to salt away the game en route to the 82-68 final score.

The Badgers made a school record 18 three-pointers in the game. That is the most threes for an Big Ten team in a game this season. Eight different Badgers made a shot from beyond the arc.

Nebraska shot 43.4-percent from the floor, making just 6-of-22 from deep. The Huskers had just 10 turnovers and also won the battle for points in the paint 36-16.

Dachon Burke Jr. led the Huskers with 20 points on 10-for-14 shooting. Cross added 17 points and Thorir Thorbjarnarson scored 12 points.

Cam Mack filled the stat sheet yet again, going for 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Mack now has 129 dimes on the season, the most for any Husker in the Big Ten era.

The Huskers are now on their longest losing streak of the season at four games in a row.

Nebraska stays on the road this weekend, going to No. 24 Rutgers(14-4, 5-2 Big Ten) January 25. The Scarlet Knights won 79-62 when they met at the beginning of the month in Lincoln.
