* Frost said he had “fingers crossed” that junior wide receiver Oliver Martin would be ready to return to action on Saturday, but didn’t sound particularly sure that it would actually happen.

“I don’t know if that’s going to happen, but I think he’s close,” Frost said.

Martin has missed the past three games after an apparent knee injury. He had six catches for 103 yards against Illinois in NU’s season opener.

* Frost also confirmed that redshirt freshman defensive back Javin Wright’s season is likely over after a blood clotting issue led Wright to have surgery this week.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder is a versatile player who is capable of being a defensive back or an outside linebacker, but he’s dealt with multiple issues since arriving on campus. Wright said via social media it’s the second blood clot he’s dealt with.

Frost called Wright a “special player” who has had bad luck and NU will try to get him fully healthy for the future.
