The Nebraska softball team (10-15, 0-2 Big Ten) fell to No. 25 Michigan (18-10, 2-0 Big Ten) by a score of 7-2 on Saturday in game two of a doubleheader. With the win, the Wolverines take the series after also winning game one.

Samantha Owen led the Husker offense, going 2-for-2 with a home run. She also had two RBIs, one run and a walk. As a team, Nebraska had six hits. Alyvia Simmons also had two hits on the day, while Tristen Edwards and Sarah Yocom each had one.

Regan Mergele started and dropped to 1-6 on the season. She pitched 2.0 innings, giving up five runs on four hits. She also had one strikeout. Courtney Wallace pitched 4.0 innings of relief. She gave up two runs on three hits and also had two strikeouts.

Alex Storako (7-6) pitched 4.1 innings. She gave up two runs on four hits and also recorded five strikeouts.

Michigan took a quick 3-0 lead in the first, without getting the ball out of the infield. A bunt single and a walk put two runners on and a wild pitch moved them both into scoring position. A walk loaded the bases. Michigan hit a ground ball to the shortstop who opted to go home to try to get the runner out, but it wasn’t in time as Michigan scored one run. Mergele got a strikeout, but a walk score another run. A fielder’s choice – that didn’t record an out – scored a third run. NU got out of the inning with a foul out fly ball to first base.

In the second, Owen drew a one-out walk to get Nebraska its first base runner, but was stranded as Michigan retired the next two batters. In the bottom of the inning, the Wolverines loaded the bases with two singles and a walk. Another single scored two runs, extending the lead to 5-0.
