Sophomore guard Nana Akenten announced on his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon that he intends to transfer from Nebraska. The Bolingbrook, Illinois native spent the last six games of the 2018-19 season on the bench, serving a suspension for a violation of team rules.

This past season, Akenten averaged 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Also, he shot 36.4 percent from the floor.

Akenten wrote on Twitter that the “University of Nebraska has played a major role into shaping me into the man I am today. I am thankful for the opportunity given to me my coach (Tim) Miles and his staff. Thank you to all the fans for the endless love and support.

“My teammates will be my brothers for life and Lincoln will always hold a special place in my heart. After talking with my family and coaches, I will be transferring from the University of Nebraska.”

The Huskers will not have a lot of depth next season. They’ll be without the services of seniors James Palmer Jr., Glynn Watson Jr., Isaac Copeland, Tanner Borchardt, and most likely Johnny Trueblood.

Additionally, sophomore guard Thomas Allen has transferred to NC State and Isaiah Roby could leave for the NBA. Although they’ll get a boost now that Dachon Burke is eligible and Jervay Green and Akol Arop want to play under first year head coach Fred Hoiberg, the 2019-20 season will still be a challenge.
