This week, the Nebraska soccer team hosts #16 Ohio State on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. (CT) as the Huskers look for their fourth conference win of the season.

Last Time Out

The Huskers scored in the opening two minutes for the second time this season en route to a 2-0 victory over Indiana on Sunday afternoon. 

Next Up

The Huskers will stay at home to face Illinois on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7:05 p.m. (CT).

Quick Notes

• Sophomore Sarah Weber, a preseason player to watch, leads the conference standings in shots with 55 through 13 games of play. Junior Eleanor Dale follows closely behind in second place with 43 shots in 12 games this season.

• Weber also continues to lead the Huskers on the offensive side as she has tallied a team-high six goals on the season, good for eighth in the Big Ten standings.

• Nebraska has held strong on defense allowing only one goal in the last three games. Junior goalkeeper Hauk earned her eighth career win on Sunday and now ranks eighth in saves per game and seventh in shutouts in the conference standings.

• NU enters the week tied for fourth in the conference standings with 10 points (three points for a win, one point for a tie).

• Three of NU’s six freshman have seen the pitch so far this year. The Huskers started Lauryn Anglim and Sadie Waite against Indiana on Sunday.

• Nebraska is ranked 59th in the first RPI, released by the NCAA on Monday.

• Nebraska’s devoted fan base has continued its strong attendance numbers at Hibner Stadium this season. In nine games this season, NU welcomed 7,413 fans, an average of 824 per contest. This average ranks 19th nationally and is second in the Big Ten, as Michigan State ranks seventh nationally with 10,814 fans per game.

• Head Coach John Walker is in his 29th season, alongside assistant coaches Ian Bridge (seventh season), Marty Everding (25th season) and Samantha Areman (second season).

 

Huskers Celebrating 29th Season in 2022

• The Nebraska soccer program is in its 29th year since the inaugural campaign in 1994. Head Coach John Walker has been at the helm of the team since its inception, guiding the Huskers to more than 340 all-time victories.

• Nebraska has made 12 NCAA Tournament appearances in its first 27 seasons, including two trips to the Elite Eight and eight Sweet 16 berths.

• The Huskers have captured four conference regular-season titles and six conference tournament crowns. As a member of the Big 12, NU won the regular-season championship in 1996, 1999 and 2000, while winning the tournament title in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2002. Nebraska joined the Big Ten in 2011 and two seasons later, swept the regular-season and tournament crowns.

Scouting the Ohio State Buckeyes

• Ohio State is 8-2-2 overall with a 3-1-1 record in Big Ten play. The Buckeyes enter the week with a three-game win streak, most recently shutting out Penn State on Sunday, 3-0.  

• The all-time series between the two teams is tied, 4-4-2, dating back to the first meeting between the schools in 2011. The last two matches between the teams resulted in double-overtime ties.

• Head Coach Lori Walker-Hock is 279-190-56 in her 25th season at Ohio State. Walker-Hock is assisted by Brian Jankowski and Gavin MacLeod.

• Players to Watch

  • #19 Emma Sears (Senior F): Tied for the team-high in goals (5) and has the team-high in points (12)
  • #9 Peyton McNamara (Junior MF): Tied for the team-high in goals (5) and has one assist on the year
  • #1 Molly Pritchard (Freshman GK): Has earned seven combined shutouts this season, while recording 28 saves
