Huskers Split Two Duals at Journeymen Wranglemania



Bethlehem, Pa. – The Nebraska wrestling team split a pair of duals in Pennsylvania at the Journeymen Wranglemania on Saturday. NU defeated Army 25-9 before falling to #8 NC State 23-10. 
 
To start the day, the Huskers allowed only nine points and recorded four bonus point victories to defeat Army and claim their first victory in Pennsylvania.  
 
The match started at 125 where #18 Liam Cronin battled #30 Ethan Berginc. Cronin recorded a takedown and an escape in the first period, but it was not enough as Berginc recorded points in each period to take the 7-5 victory. In the next bout, #26 Boo Dryden recorded his second-straight win at 133 against Richard Treanor. Dryden was awarded a penalty point in the first period due to Treanor’s stalling and tallied an escape in the third period to claim the 2-0 decision. 
 
At 141, #29 Brock Hardy grabbed the first bonus point victory of the day as he defeated Army’s Julian Sanchez by major decision, 17-4. Hardy totaled five takedowns and a four-point nearfall to push the Husker lead to 7-3. Up next, Dayne Morton took on Matthew Williams at the 149-match. Morton scored an escape in the second period and a pair of takedowns to win by decision, 5-1.
 
Action continued as #4 Peyton Robb (157) battled #29 Nate Lukez recording three takedowns, four nearfall points and an escape to shutout Lukez and claim the 12-0 major decision victory. At 165, #30 Jagger Condomitti battled and scored a reversal and a takedown, but fell to Army’s #29 Nate Lukez by decision, 8-6. 
 
Returning four-time All-American #3 Mikey Labriola defeated #21 Ben Pasiuk by decision, 12-6. Labriola recorded takedowns in both the first and third periods en route to the bonus point victory. At 184, #29 Lenny Pinto got the start against Sahm Abdulrazzaq. The two battled, but Pinto fell by decision, 7-6. 
 
The Huskers held the 17-9 overall advantage before the final two bouts where both #24 Silas Allred and #28 Cale Davidson recorded bonus point victories. At 197, Allred recorded seven takedowns to claim the 16-5 victory over Kyle Swartz. Davidson (HWT) shut out Army’s Kade Carlson 8-0 with four nearfall points and a takedown in the final two periods to help the Huskers claim the 25-9 dual victory. 
 
In the second dual of the day, the Huskers battled NC State. The teams started at 125, and it was freshman Jacob Van Dee who got the start for the Huskers and recorded his first victory. He tallied a takedown and two nearfall points to defeat #21 Jarrett Trombley, 7-3. 
 
At 133, Dryden faced #23 Kai Orine, recording a pair of takedowns, but fell in overtime, 6-4. NC State then recorded a pair of victories at 141 and 149 to take the 9-3 lead. Hardy fell to #20 Ryan Jack 9-7, and Jackson Arrington defeated Morton, 11-5.
 
The Huskers bounced back at 157 as Robb recorded his second ranked victory of the day. Robb recorded two takedowns and two reversals to claim the 8-2 victory. 
 
NC State extended its overall lead after Don Cates defeated Adam Thebeau at 165, 7-2. At 174, Labriola tallied a win by major decision, defeating Brock Delsignore, 13-5. Labriola scored five takedowns and a reversal to cut the Wolf Pack lead, and the Huskers trailed 12-10 with three bouts to go. 
 
Nathan Haas battled at 184, but lost by technical fall to #3 Trent Hidlay. Allred took on #18 Issac Trumble at 197. Allred tallied a reversal in the third period, but it was not enough as Trumble recorded the 9-2 decision. To close the night, Davidson faced Tyrie Houghton at heavyweight. Davidson scored points in both the first and third periods, but Houghton prevailed to grab the 5-4 victory. 
 
Up next, the Huskers stay on the road and face Navy on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. (CT).
