Huskers Set New NCAA Season Record to Secure First-Place Seed



Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska bowling team continues to sit at the top at the 2023 Big Red Invitational with a 5-5 record on the weekend. The Huskers also clinched a new NCAA 2023 season high record in traditional team format with a total pinfall of 1,219, beating out the previous season high of 1,187.  

In an overflowing crowd, the Big Red smashed the season record in its first match of the day against Quincy (1,219-1,019) before grabbing another victory against No. 13 Newman (1,063-1,013). Nebraska then took a loss to No. 7 Youngstown State (1,190-1,079) before striking back with a win against Valparaiso (1,123-961). The Big Red ended the day with a loss to No. 21 Lincoln Memorial (1,167-991), the teams lowest match of the day.  

All five Huskers that bowled today currently sit in the top 25 individual standings. Senior Crystal Elliott leads the Huskers in second with a total pinfall of 1,153 and an average of 230.60. Senior Kendyl Hofmeister follows Elliott in 11th with 1,102. Freshman Jillian Martin sits at 13th with 1,097 and Anna Callan is in 19th with 1,066. Junior Kayla Verstraete rounds out the team in 22nd with a total pinfall of 1,057.  

The Huskers will resume play tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. (CT) for the final day. The championship trophy of the Big Red Invitational is awarded to the team with the highest overall total pinfall and per-game average over all three days of competition. Each team will compete in two matches of best 4-of-7 baker games in seeded pool rounds based on total pinfall and the top three teams with highest averages will be awarded.
