Huskers Ready to Face No. 19 Illinois on the Road



The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team will travel to Champaign for its first road Big Ten Competition as they face Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 28. The meet is set to start at 2 p.m. at Huff Hall. 

 

The Huskers faced Illinois last season at the Big Ten Championship. NU outscored the Fighting Illini, 196.450-195.825. Nebraska leads the series, 29-10. 

 

Last Time Out

NU is coming off of a conference loss to Maryland. The Terrapins claimed the victory with a score of 195.875 while the Huskers finished with a team score of 195.325.

 

Sophomore Emma Spence led the Big Red, claiming three individual titles at the meet. Spence, who tallied three career-high scores, won the vault (9.900), floor (9.900) and all-around (39.400) titles. The scores also marked the highest mark for each event by a Husker this season. 
 

Scouting the Competition

The Fighting Illini are coming off of a conference victory. Illinois opened Big Ten Competition at Rutgers, winning 196.575-196.375. This marked the third win of the season for the Fighting Illini as they have also claimed victories over Bowling Green and Texas Women’s. Illinois also met No. 14 Missouri and Arizona in competition, falling to both teams. 

 

Illinois returns 16 gymnasts from a 2022 team that finished fourth at the NCAA Seattle Regional.
