Huskers Prepare for Big Ten Championships




The Nebraska cross country team makes its way to University Park, Penn., for the 2021 Big Ten Championships on Friday, Oct. 29 at the Blue & White Golf Course. The men’s 5.2-mile race will begin at 9:45 a.m. (CT), followed by the women’s 6K at 10:45 a.m.
 
Both races can be streamed live on B1G+ (subscription required). Live results will be available on PT Timing. The Nebraska women enter Friday’s race ranked eighth in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Poll, while the Husker men head into the weekend ranked No. 13 in the region.
 
Last Time Out
The Nebraska women won the Bradley Pink Classic with a total of 122 points. Erika Freyhof ran a 20:41.6 to place third and surpass the previous best for the Husker women at the Bradley Pink Classic set by Bonnie Smith in 2017 with a time of 21:18.9. Grace Pagone and Hannah Godwin also finished in the top-20 for the Big Red, with Pagone placing 12th (21:18.7) and Godwin clocking a 21:30.0 to finish 18th. Brynna McQuillen was the next Husker to cross the finish line with a time of 21:55.3 to place 41st. Jacquelyn Abanses rounded out the scoring for Nebraska with a 48th-place finish and time of 21:58.9.
 
The Husker men finished fifth overall out of 31 teams with 160 points. Dais Malebana captured the individual title, covering the 8K course in 23:41.1 to record the fastest time by a Nebraska men’s runner at the Bradley Pink Classic. The previous best was 24:28.4 set by Jacob Olson in 2015. Following Malebana, Ryan Martins finished 13th with a time of 24:25.9. Mark Freyhof clocked a 24:47.8 and finished 27th. Bailey Timmons posted a time of 25:01.2 to place 51st while Ryan Eastman capped the scoring for the Big Red with a time of 25:14.5 and a 71st-place finish.
