[Huskers] Move to 4-0 with Win Over Army

The Nebraska Rifle team continued their undefeated streak with a 4,677-4,626 victory over Army on Saturday at the NU Rifle Range.

Sophomores Madelynn Erickson and Cecelia Ossi took the top two spots overall with scores of 1,176 and 1,174, respectively. They were rounded out by a fifth place finish from Elena Flake (1,159), a seventh place finish from Mackenzie Strauch (1,156) and a ninth place finish from Kinga Aletto (1,145).

Multiple Huskers set personal records in the match according to Head Coach Mindy Miles: “Cecelia (Ossi) had a PR in kneeling, Mackenzie (Strauch) had a PR in prone, and Payton (Fry) had a PR in air.”

Erickson led the Huskers in the air rifle with a score of 592, the best of the match. She was followed by Ossi, who placed third with a 589, and Aletto (584) and Flake (583) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the smallbore, the Huskers swept the top three spots. Ossi earned the top spot with a score of 587. Erickson placed second with a score of 584. All-American Emily Cheramie tied Erickson’s score of 584.

“I am proud that individual team members have been posting personal records each week, however, I’m looking forward to each of them coming together to shoot a team score they are proud of. Thankfully, we have some time before our trip to VMI to get some practice in. I expect strong performance on the road,” Miles said.

The Huskers travel to the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. on Nov. 7.
