Huskers Hunt Big Ten Win at Penn State



The No. 3 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team heads east to take on No. 4 Penn State in their first Big Ten dual match of the season this Saturday, Jan. 28. The meet will commence at 12:00 p.m. CT at Rec Hall with a live video stream for B1G+ subscribers.

Last Time Out

Nebraska enters the upcoming B1G meet after a third-place finish at the Rocky Mountain Open, featuring captain Taylor Christopulos’ first-place finish landing him the floor title with a 14.40. Additionally, the junior finished in third place with his all-around performance with a personal best score of 81.800.

Sophomore James Friedman nailed his routine on rings for NU, collecting a personal best score of 13.90, while Luke James made his Husker debut on vault scoring a 14.20. Donte McKinney earned a personal best on high bar, ranking seventh nationally with a score of 14.25.

Ahead of the meet, No. 4 NU ranks among the top five on events including second on pommel horse, third on parallel bars and rings, fourth in the all-around, and fifth on high bar and vault.

Scouting the Competition

The Nittany Lions rank No. 4 in the national standings for NCAA Men’s Gymnastics leading into week three of competition. Coming off a second-place finish at the Navy Open, PSU ranks second on rings with the help of junior Michael Jaroh, who claimed the event title on rings with a score of 13.80, in addition to the all-around title (80.950). Penn State follows in fourth on floor, vault, and the all-around.

Penn State is also led by junior Michael Artlip, finishing among the top three in the past two competitions in the all-around, with a score of 78.900 (Army West Point) and 77.000 (Navy Open). Artlip finished third on floor with a personal best of 14.10 last time out. Both Jaroh and Artlip qualified for the Winter Cup with their first and third all-around finishes.
