Huskers Host Terrapins for Pink Meet



The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team is set to host Maryland this Saturday, Jan. 21, for its annual pink meet. The meet is set to start at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. 

The Huskers last faced Maryland in 2022 at the Big Ten Championship. NU and the Terrapins tied, each finishing in sixth with a score of 196.450. Nebraska currently leads the series, 15-4-1. 

Last Time Out

NU is coming off of a first-place finish at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational after notching a team score of 196.150 and defeating Cornell, George Washington and William and Mary.

Kinsey Davis and Sophia McClelland both claimed two event titles to highlight the outstanding performance from the Huskers. Davis, who earned event titles for both routines she performed, tallied a 9.900 on vault and a 9.850 on bars. McClelland notched a 9.875 on beam and a career-best 39.225 in the all-around competition. Ayzhia Hall shared a piece of the beam title with a career-best 9.875 while Emma Simpton competed on beam for the first time in her career to share the title as well. 

Scouting the Competition

The Terrapins competed for the first time in 2023 last weekend against West Virginia and Kent State. Maryland claimed the victory over both teams with a team score of 195.425. 

Maryland returns 17 gymnasts from a 2022 squad who finished the season at the NCAA Raleigh Regional. The Terrapins finished third behind Michigan and UCLA.

Fan Information

Fans can receive free pink pom poms and schedule posters at the door while supplies last. The student-athletes will be available for autographs following the completion of the meet and awards.
