Huskers Hit the Road to Take on Hawkeyes

Nebraska swimming and diving returns to action for a conference matchup against Iowa on Friday, with events beginning at 4 p.m. in Iowa City.

The Huskers are coming off a busy weekend competing at home, moving to 3-1 on the season after collecting a pair of wins over Iowa State and South Dakota, while dropping one to Minnesota.

Gena Jorgenson has had an impressive start to her freshman campaign, swimming to wins in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events against Iowa State. She added a trio of top-three finishes the next day in the double-dual against Minnesota and South Dakota.

The breaststroke crew remains top-notch for the Huskers, highlighted by JoJo Randby’s 100 breaststroke win on Saturday with a 1:04.63. She finished ahead of Minnesota’s Emma Lezer, who placed in the top 20 in the 100 breast at the 2022 NCAA Championships.

Lexi Kucera has been a leader in the pool early this season. In the opening dual, she won the 200 freestyle and 50 butterfly to power the Huskers to a win over South Dakota State. Kucera followed with a 100 butterfly victory in the Iowa State dual.

Senior captains Berkeley Livingston (1,000 freestyle), Madesyn Ronquillio (100 backstroke) and Shannon Stott (200 butterfly) have each brought in an individual win of their own through the first four duals of the season.

Giulia Marchi swam to her first win as a Husker last Friday, clocking 1:52.21 in the 200 freestyle.

On the boards, Reagan Hinze and Kelsey Clairmont have put up NCAA Zone-qualifying scores. Last weekend, Clairmont scored 277.55 on the one-meter and a 314.25 on the three-meter, while Hinze pitched in a 272.48 on the one-meter to claim their spots.

Nebraska looks to even the series in its eighth meeting with Iowa. In the most recent dual, the Huskers produced their largest margin of victory in school history in a Big Ten Conference dual, outscoring Iowa, 193-59. Nebraska dominated from start to finish, capturing titles in 15 of the 16 events, including Stott and Kucera each picking up a pair of individual wins.

The Hawkeyes are 1-0 on the season, with a 197-102 win over Northern Iowa on Oct. 7.

Sophomore Alix O’Brien contributed a trio of individual wins for the Hawkeyes in the 500 freestyle, 1,000 freestyle and 200 IM events. Scarlet Martin, a freshman from Iowa City, was a part of two winning relays and pitched in 50 and 100 freestyle wins.

Nebraska’s dual at Iowa is scheduled for a live video stream on B1G+.
