Huskers Finish Queen’s Cup in Hawaii

Despite wins from their top two pairs, the Nebraska beach volleyball team came up just short in a 3-2 loss to UC Davis in their final match of the Queen’s Cup at Queen’s Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Of the Huskers’ five matches at the Queen’s Cup, it was the most competitive. Ally Batenhorst and Keonilei Akana defeated UC Davis’ No. 2 pair, 18-21, 21-18, 15-13, to tie the match 1-1 after UC Davis claimed the early lead with a win at No. 4.

The Nos. 3 and 5 matches went to the Aggies to clinch the 3-1 victory for them, but Bekka Allick/Lexi Rodriguez and Whitney Lauenstein/Hayden Kubik pushed those matches to three sets before ultimate both falling in the final frame, 15-10.

Finishing off the match, NU’s top pair of Madi Kubik and Kenzie Knuckles battled to a hard-fought 27-25, 23-25, 15-12 win over UC Davis’ No. 1 duo.

The Huskers (5-9) will take Sunday off before playing Chaminade on Monday and Tuesday in Honolulu.
