Huskers Fall to No. 5 Michigan

Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 45 Nebraska men’s tennis team (9-6, 1-1 Big Ten) dropped a tough matchup to No. 5 Michigan (14-2, 2-0 Big Ten) 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
 
Michigan got off to a fast start in doubles play, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead. On Court 2, Nino Ehrenschneider and Patrick Maloney defeated Nic Wiedenhorn and Leo Linquet 6-3. The No. 8 ranked duo in the country of Andrew Fenty and Gavin Young defeated William Gleason and Calvin Mueller 6-2 on Court 1 to clinch the doubles point.
 
Court 3 went unfinished, with Michigan’s Ondrej Styler and Jacob Bickersteth leading 5-4 over Roni Hietaranta and Shunya Maruyama.
 
Michigan continued their strong play into singles, with No. 14 Styler defeating Hietaranta on Court 1, 6-4, 6-1. No. 10 Fenty followed with another point for Michigan on Court 2, after he defeated Linquet 6-3, 6-3.
 
The Wolverines clinched the match on Court 6, as No. 117 Will Cooksey defeated Wiedenhorn 6-3, 7-5.
 
The remaining three matches went unfinished. Maruyama was trailing Young 2-6, 5-6, on Court 3, Gleason was leading Bickersteth 6-2, 6-6, on Court 4, and Mueller was leading Ehrenschneider 6-4, 6-5, on Court 5.

The Huskers return to action Friday, March 31, in Columbus, Ohio, as they take on No. 2 Ohio State at 5 p.m. CT, and on Sunday, April 2, in University Park, Pa., against No. 63 Penn State at 11 a.m. CT.
