Huskers Come Up Short Against No. 9 Northwestern

Lincoln, Neb. – Despite outshooting the Wildcats, the Nebraska soccer team (3-4-3, 1-1-0 Big Ten) dropped a tough 4-2 loss to No. 9 Northwestern at Hibner Stadium on Thursday evening.

The Husker outshot the Wildcats (8-1-1, 2-0-0 Big Ten) by a 14-12 margin and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, but Northwestern scored in both halves to claim the victory.

The Big Red attacked early as Reagan Raabe scored the quickest goal of the year for the Huskers as she found the back of the net at the 39 second mark. Northwestern quickly responded with a goal of their own in the eighth minute by Caterina Regazzoni to tie the game 1-1.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-1 when Meg Boade scored off an assist from Lily Gilbertson in the 25th minute, and Aurea del Carmen found the back of the net in the 29th minute.

Nebraska trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at the half as Abbey Schwarz recorded her second goal of the season with one second to spare in the first half. Lauryn Anglim shot the ball into the goal box off a corner kick, Schwarz gathered and shot it into the back left corner of the net.

In the second half, Boade recorded her second goal of the night in the 70th minute, and Northwestern held the 4-2 lead until the finish.

Junior goalkeeper Sami Hauk recorded three saves and played the entire 90 minutes.

The Huskers hit the road this weekend as they face Michigan on Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
