Huskers Collide with Kansas Saturday

Nebraska swim and dive will travel to Lawrence, Kan., for its 30th meeting with the Jayhawks on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m.

The Huskers are coming off a 175-123 win over Iowa in a Big Ten dual on Oct. 21. Lexi Kucera and Shannon Stott powered Nebraska’s victory over the Hawkeyes, as both swimmers claimed a pair of individual titles.

Kucera has placed in the top three in all eight of her individual races this season, including two wins in the 200 freestyle, a victory in the 100 freestyle and another win in the 100 butterfly.

Stott has collected a pair of 200 butterfly wins against Iowa and Iowa State, while adding a 500 freestyle victory on the season.

Gena Jorgenson has had a strong start to her freshman campaign, consistently leading the distance corps. In her Husker debut, she cruised to a win in the 1,000 freestyle. The next week, Jorgenson claimed the 500 and 1,000 freestyle titles against the Cyclones. Her last time out, Jorgenson added another 1,000 freestyle win at the Iowa dual with a career-best 10:11.44.

JoJo Randby, Maia Hall and Sydney McCracken have been consistent contributors in the breaststroke events.

Randby swam to a big 100 breaststroke win over talented Minnesota and South Dakota teams in a double-dual. She placed second in the event in the Iowa and Iowa State duals.

Hall opened the season with a 100 breaststroke win at South Dakota State and is coming off a 200 breaststroke victory at Iowa.

McCracken notched a pair of runner-up finishes at the Iowa dual, in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM.

Emily Haimes and Giulia Marchi have made an impact in the sprints, both individually and in relays. Haimes swam to a convincing 100 butterfly win at Iowa, clocking a 55.72, her best time as a Husker.

Marchi, a freshman from Italy, won her first individual event as a Husker at the Iowa State dual, with a 1:52.21 in the 200 freestyle. She added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle against the Cyclones.

Berkeley Livingston and Madesyn Ronquillio join Stott as captains for the 2022-23 season. Livingston is set for her role as a leader in the individual medley and butterfly events.

Ronquillio headlines the backstroke events, with six top-three finishes on the season between the 100 and 200 backstroke events. She is coming off of a 200 backstroke win and 100 backstroke runner-up finish at the Iowa dual.

Sarah Barton continues to show her versatility, competing in butterfly, freestyle, backstroke and individual medley events this season. She won the 100 butterfly at South Dakota State and has produced a trio of 200 butterfly finishes within the top three.

In the diving well, Kelsey Clairmont and Reagan Hinze teamed up to take the top two spots during the Iowa State dual, with both earning spots at the NCAA Zone Diving Meet. Clairmont has started her freshman campaign in impressive fashion, finishing within the top two on four occasions.

The Jayhawks own a 19-10 edge in the all-time series with Nebraska, but the Huskers produced a 192-106 victory a year ago. NU won 14 of 16 events to cruise to its first win over Kansas since 2016.

Kansas is 2-0 on the season after hosting Lindenwood (280-90) and South Dakota (262.5-71.5) for a double-dual, Oct. 21-22.

At the 2022 Big 12 Championships, Kansas finished second, trailing only NCAA runner-up Texas.

Brigid Gwidt, Claudia Dougan and Dewi Blose are a trio of top returners for the Jayhawks. In her freshman season, Gwidt swam to top-eight finishes in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 breaststroke at the conference meet. Dougan notched a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle, a seventh-place swim in the 100 freestyle and was a crucial member of competitive relay teams at the Big 12 Championships. Blose returns for her fifth season with Kansas, after placing fourth in the 200 backstroke and gathering a pair of ninth-place finishes (100 backstroke, 50 freestyle) at conference last season.
