Huksers Dominate Illinois on Senior Day

The four seniors were celebrated at Pinnacle Bank Arena, and the team sent them off their home court in grand fashion.

Nebraska (17-11, 7-10 Big Ten) took control of the game from the tip, getting a jump hook from Kate Cain on the first possession. After an Illinois (11-16, 2-14) jumper to answer, the Huskers went on a 16-2 run that included four three-pointers. The Illini responded with a 7-0 run before Nebraska closes the quarter on a 10-2 that included another pair of triples.

The second quarter began the same way, with Nebraska taking control on a 12-0 run that began with two more three-pointers. The Huskers would extend to as much as 33 before taking a 56-27 lead into halftime.

The Huskers shot 63.6-percent in the first half and made 11-of-16 three-pointers. Of the 21 made field goals, 17 came off of assists.

A quick 8-0 run Illinois opened the second-half, prompting coach Williams to take a timeout. Her team responded by winning the rest of the quarter 14-8 to lead 70-43 with one quarter to go.

Nebraska coasted to an 80-58 victory.

Illinois was held to 36.1-percent shooting shooting, including 9-of-24 from beyond the arc. The Illini made six of those triples after halftime.

Nebraska shot 51.7-percent for the game, including 13-of-27 on three-pointers. The 13 triples are tied for fourth for a single game all-time in program in history.

Leigha Brown once again led the scoring with 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting and four made three-pointers. Hannah Whitish also tallied four triples in her 12 points effort while also adding seven assists. Ashtyn Veerbeek scored 15 points.

Nebraska closes out the regular season at No. 24 Indiana (20-7, 10-5 Big Ten) February 27.
