Here are the results of that Faculty Senate survey regarding leaving the Big Ten

Hey there /r/huskers 😉 Do any of you remember that [survey]( https://www.klkntv.com/unl-faculty-asked-to-weigh-in-on-fall-sports-decision-big-ten/) that the UNL Faculty Senate put out to gauge the faculty’s opinion on leaving the Big Ten conference after the media shitstorm following ScoFro saying he wanted to explore the option of playing outside the Big Ten this year? Well, I went ahead and submitted a public records request for the responses to that survey and, lo and behold, UNL followed through and gave me the data.

 

Before I get into any of the boring stuff, __[here is the dataset]( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qTJXJDRYxx2uYqt6Qj5okkxdIPTJoUzl/view?usp=sharing)__. I did remove some of the columns that appeared to not actually have data and edited out any instances of faculty including their own name in the comments that I could find. If you decided to peruse the comments and find identifying information, please let me know asap so I can remove it.

 

Based on [this tweet]( https://twitter.com/ChrisDunkerLJS/status/1293751333066018817) by Chris Dunker of the Lincoln Journal Star, I decided to split up the data where the first 400 responders are mostly actual faculty responses and the last 2277 responses are unreliable since that might be around where the survey link got leaked to the public. __Note__: This was not an official poll by UNL, just an unofficial strawpoll to gauge a general opinion.

# Yes vs. No

I did not included any responses where there was neither a Yes nor No for this piece (which was maybe 10 or so). Yes means the respondent did want to leave the Big Ten and No means the respondent did __not__ want to leave the Big Ten.

This is the result of all 2677 Yes/No answers. You can see that most respondents did want to leave the Big Ten in here. However…

You can see that when we look at the sample that we assume is mostly unsoiled by Reddit and Discord trolls, the result vastly shifts in favor of staying in the Big Ten. This is not surprising whatsoever since the Big Ten is viewed as academically prestigious and grants our researchers and professors access to the Big Ten Academic Alliance among other significant academic benefits.

Here we see the respondents favor leaving the Big Ten, probably hoping for the SEC so we can lose 69-3 to three teams every year rather than just OSU. Also, you can’t trust this mostly because it has a response or two from me.
