Final coaching hire…

Many believe Busch gets the last spot, since people are pounding the table for a full-time ST coach. That would leave us a) without a running backs coach; b) someone else taking the group; or c) letting someone go, so we can then hire a running backs coach.

BUT… we could just hire a running backs/special teams coach.

They do exist. Two that I would consider are: [Andre Powell](https://pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/andre-powell/1763), and [Tim Horton](https://goairforcefalcons.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/tim-horton/928).

Powell worked at Pitt with Whipple, and has coached some solid RBs in his career, such as James Conner, CJ Spiller, Tiki Barber, etc. His special teams, also, are very consistent. They’re always ranked inside the top 50 by Football Outsiders (goes back to 2007). Some have been in the top 10. Altogether Powell has 25 years of coaching experience in the Power5, and most of it has been as a RB/ST coach.

Horton has only one year of ST coaching experience (maybe 2?) but he improved Air Force’s special teams from #85 to #68 this season (DONU was #128). He also returned punts (and played split end) at Arkansas in the 80s. As a running backs coach, he’s far more experienced. This year Air Force led the country in rushing (beating out Army by 40ypg). Horton has coached a slew of guys (at Aubrun and Arkansas) that are college football “names”. Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, Tre Mason, Cameron Artis-Payne, Kamryn Pettway, and Kerryon Johnson are a few of the backs Horton has developed.

We also could wait until the end of the NFL season and hire Rich Bisaccia when the Raiders eventually fire him. Dude started his coaching career at Wayne St and has 30+ yrs experience coaching STs. He also has about a decade worth of experience as a running backs coach.

Last time we hired someone from the Raiders, it turned out pretty good.. right??
