Daniels, Gym All-Americans Lead Grads

Lincoln – A total of 13 current and former Husker student-athletes across all sports will receive their degrees during UNL Summer Commencement ceremonies at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 9 a.m.

The events also will be streamed at http://www.commencement.unl.edu.

Former Husker football player Darrion Daniels headlines the group of graduates by earning his master’s degree in applied science from UNL. The defensive lineman from Dallas, Texas, was a starter for the Huskers in 2019 before playing four games for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL in 2020. He is currently on the roster of the Atlanta Falcons.

Defensive lineman Mosai Newsom joined Daniels among Nebraska’s honored graduates. The sophomore from Waverly, Iowa earned his bachelor’s degree as an advertising and public relations major after being named an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2020.

The Nebraska men’s gymnastics program added a quartet of All-America graduates who helped the Huskers to three top-four NCAA team finishes after coming to NU as true freshmen in 2018-19. Charlie Giles (Lake Zurich, Ill.) closed his Husker career as a three-time NCAA All-American in competition. The 2022 Nissen-Emery Award finalist was also a four-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Evan Kriley (Tampa, Fla.) joined Giles as a Nissen-Emery Award finalist in 2022. The 2021 pommel horse All-American was also a five-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection. Dillan King (Eagle Mountain, Utah) added All-America honors for the Huskers on parallel bars while claiming Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2022. Khalil Jackson (Houston, Texas) was an All-American on high bar in 2019 and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

The Husker swimming and diving program contributed a pair of talented divers to the graduating class. Hallie Roman (Port Huron, Mich.) was a 2022 CSCAA Scholar All-American after qualifying for the NCAA Zone Championships on the one-meter board. Roman was also a 2021 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten choice. Warak (Bellevue, Neb.) represented the Huskers at the NCAA Championships in both the three-meter and platform dives as a true freshman in 2019, before suffering an injury that kept her from competing the remainder of her collegiate career.

Papay Glaywulu (Kansas City, Mo.) earned his bachelor’s degree after capturing the 2021 and 2022 Big Ten indoor triple jump titles. Chance Hroch (Temecula, Calif.), added his degree after serving as a weekend starting pitcher for the 2021 Big Ten champion Nebraska baseball team.

Nailah Dillard (women’s basketball), Tristan Nelko (men’s golf) and Riley Zuhn (volleyball) rounded out the list of graduates.

Overall, the 13 Husker graduates in August came to Nebraska from 12 states. Over the last three graduations (December 2021, May 2022, August 2022), a total of 125 Husker student-athletes from 31 states and 10 foreign countries have earned their degrees from the University of Nebraska.
