Badura Puts Up Season-Best at Hawkeye Invite



Senior Caleb Badura led the way for the Huskers at the Hawkeye Invitational over the weekend, finishing in a tie for 15th after firing a 71 (-1) on Sunday in the final round in Iowa City, Iowa.

Badura, a Nebraska native, golfed his best 54-hole score of the 2021-22 season with a 218, putting up a 75 (+3) in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second. The Huskers teamed up for a first round score of 295, their best of the invite on the par-72, 7,157-yard layout.  Sophomore Gentry Scheve provided the lowest score for the Big Red on the round, carding a one-under 71. Scheve (Emporia, Kan.) followed that up with a 76 (+4) in the second round and closed with an 80 (+8) in the final round to tie for 50th.

Senior Branden Meyer joined Badura in the top 25 after shooting two consecutive 75s and closing with a solid 70 (-2) to finish in 22nd with a 220.

Sophomore Reed Malleck golfed outside Nebraska’s lineup and finished tied for 29th, putting up a 74 (+2) in both rounds on Saturday and a 77 (+5) in the third round to total a 225.

Senior Tom Westenberger shot a 74 (+2) in the first round, 75 (+3) in the second and 81 (+9) in the third to finish tied for 62nd (230).

Senior Mark Foelbaek rounded out the Big Red lineup in a tie for 68th after finishing with a 231.

Kansas won the team title, golfing a total of 852, powered by a second round total of 280 (-8). The host, Iowa finished in second (854) and Creighton took third (874). Nebraska finished 10th among the strong field, golfing a 890 (295-298-297).

Kansas’ Harry Hillier finished as the medalist with a 208 (-8).

Nebraska will return to play at the Big Ten Championships April 29-May 1 in French Lick, Ind. on the Pete Dye Course.
