Five Huskers earn World Team Trials berths as a total of 11 past and present Huskers took the mat at the UWW Junior and Senior Nationals this weekend. The events were held at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from Tuesday, April 26 to Sunday, May 1.

Five Huskers in total competed at Senior Nationals, with Alex Thomsen (60 kg) wrestling Greco-Roman and Tyler Berger (70 kg), Collin Purinton (74 kg), Isaiah White (79 kg) and Christian Lance (125 kg) competing in the freestyle division.

Lance (sixth) and Purinton (third) earned World Team Trial berths with their finishes and will join Berger who had already previously qualified.

At UWW Junior Freestyle Nationals, Silas Allred (92 kg) led the contingent of six Huskers competing with a second-place finish. Allred won three-straight matches by bonus points before falling in the title match to Maryland’s Jaxon Smith.

The remaining field of NU grapplers at Junior Nationals included Blake Cushing (65 kg), Joshua Licking (70 kg) and Zak Taylor (97 kg).
