Nebraska great Yvonne Turner enters her third WNBA season with Phoenix in 2019, as the Mercury tip-off the regular season against the Seattle Storm on Saturday in a game televised nationally by ABC at 2:30 p.m. (CT).

Turner, who has helped the Mercury to back-to-back playoff berths in her first two seasons with the club, is in her 10th season of professional basketball since helping the Huskers to the Big 12 Conference title and an NCAA Sweet Sixteen bid as a senior in 2010.

The 2006 Gatorade Nebraska High School Player of the Year at Bellevue East, Turner played 126 games in her four-year collegiate career as a Husker. The 5-8 guard from Omaha totaled 1,101 points to rank among the top 25 scorers in school history.

The 2010 Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Turner finished fifth on Nebraska’s career steals list with 229, while claiming three straight spots on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.

As a senior in 2010, Turner averaged 13.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 steals in Big 12 play to help the Huskers to a 16-0 conference record and a 32-2 overall mark.

Turner averaged 9.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steal as a playoff starter for the Mercury in 2017, then earned a starting spot in the Mercury’s playoff lineup again in 2018.

Turner, who earned her bachelor’s degree from Nebraska in May of 2010, has enjoyed an extensive professional career that has included the past three seasons with Uniqa Sopron (Hungary). This season she averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.6 steals in 36.1 minutes per game for Sopron.

In 2018, she led Sopron to the EuroLeague championship game as the league’s top point guard. She has also played professionally in Australia, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Spain and Poland.

Turner and the Mercury will be back on national TV when they take on the Las Vegas Aces in Phoenix on Friday, May 31, at 9 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2.
