The Nebraska basketball team has been selected as a 4 seed in the 2019 National Invitation Tournament, also known as the NIT. They’ll host Butler, the 5 seed, at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln on Wednesday. The winner will play either TCU or Sam Houston State in the second round.

The Butler Bulldogs were 16-16 overall this past season. Butler University is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. They hail from the Big East conference, where they finished 7-11 in conference play this season. Also, former Nebraska basketball head coach Barry Collier is the Athletic Director of Butler.

“We are excited to have our season continue, especially for our seniors who wanted to return to postseason play,” Nebraska Coach Tim Miles said in a press release. “We had our share of struggles at times, but I think the way we have played over the final two weeks of the season is a testament to our players and the character they have. I believe that our performance at the Big Ten Tournament is a good momentum boost heading into the postseason, and showed a team that wanted to keep playing.

“We have been tested against a schedule that is in the top five nationally in Kenpom, including 25 games against the top two quadrants in the NET, and we are looking forward to the postseason challenge.”

NU made the NIT last season, where they lost to Mississippi State 66 to 59 in the first round. The Huskers have won the tournament once, back in 1996. A Big 10 team has won it twice in the past five seasons – Penn State in 2018 and Minnesota in 2014.

According to ESPN, the game is set to tip-off at 8 o’clock on Wednesday. Pregame coverage will begin at 7 on KLIN.
