NCAA Basketball Rules Changes

A few changes including the 3 point line will be made for the upcoming season

The NCAA approved new changes for the upcoming basketball season. The biggest being moving the three point line from it’s current position to over a foot farther out. This would be where the international three point line currently sits.

The exact distance would move the line from 20’9” out to 22’1-3/4” out. The NIT Tournament had this change done the previous two seasons and it will now be the rule for all sanctioned NCAA games.

The idea behind had been looked at for some time and there were a multitude of reason why they decided to change. The first being that it would free up lanes for dribbling and driving from the perimeter. The second being that it would make the three point tougher. This came from the belief that the three point shot was becoming to prevalent in today’s game. Finally, it would help with offensive spacing and allow the defense to cover more of the court.
