It’s never too early for Way Too Early in the sports world.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence undoubtedly tops many Way Too Early 2019 Heisman lists and 2021 NFL mock drafts after his outrageous performance Monday night in the Tigers’ 44-16 title game romp against Alabama.

You can find daily updates on the projected NCAA Tournament field for the spring even though teams haven’t played half their games yet. You’ve been able to for months. Heck, you can probably find projected brackets for next season.

But that’s part of the fun of sports, even if it doesn’t mean too much.

As it so happens, the Husker football team is picking up some Way Too Early attention in projected 2019 rankings.

CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd pegs Nebraska at No. 18, writing, “This is the only 4-8 team you’ll find on this list. The worst start in Husker history (0-6) ended with signs of life. Nebraska finished 4-2, and there seems to be visible signs of progress under Scott Frost. Quarterback Adrian Martinez has shown flashes.”

The Huskers are also pegged No. 18 by the Orlando Sentinel’s Matt Murschel. That, coincidentally, is one spot behind NU coach Scott Frost’s old school, Central Florida.

The Huskers are listed as being close or next in line or just missed by Sports Illustrated, The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel and others.

Only seven schools have better odds at this stage, according to Westgate, and only Ohio State (12-1) and Michigan (14-1) have better odds in the Big Ten. Wisconsin is next at 50-1.
